Aspirations to playing international rugby for Scotland and cricket for England cruelly snuffed out by lack of talent.

Educated in Perthshire and subsequently, and riotously, at Trinity College Dublin as part of an effort to honour the spirit of JP Donleavy's "The Ginger Man".

Too much time spent on undergraduate debating, acting and journalism ensured that a career - if it can be called that - in newspapers was the only thing available. Poor timing for such an enterprise.
